Stirbt die Europäische Union?

Das glaubt zumindest der ehemalige Berater Bill Clintons Charles Kupchan in einem Beitrag für die renommierte Zeitung "The Washington Post":

Die Europäische Union stirbt – keinen dramatischen und plötzlichen Tod, sondern langsam und stetig, so dass Amerika eines Tages über den Atlantik schauen und realisieren wird, dass die europäische Integration, die wir ein halbes Jahrhundert lang für selbstverständlich gehalten haben, nicht mehr existiert.

"The European Union is dying -- not a dramatic or sudden death, but one so slow and steady that we may look across the Atlantic one day soon and realize that the project of European integration that we've taken for granted over the past half-century is no more."

Charles Kupchan. Charles Kupchan ist Professor für Internationale Beziehungen und Senior Fellow des Council on Foreign Relations. Er leitete die Europa-Abteilung des Nationalen Sicherheitsrats während des ersten Mandats Bill Clintons von 1993 bis 1997.
